Bugs' signature sound was beginning to define itself during the 1970s with the blues. "Blues was all that mattered to me; no other music was worth a damn." Bugs and his love for blues got tired of the wide-open riff-oriented rock, and friend Freddie King began pushing for Henderson to start his own band. Bugs the assembled his first record "At Last" released on succession of 14 albums spanning over four decades. His mixture of searing blues, jazz ability, swing, funk, and just about everything else that can be played on sixstrings; Bugs has the ability to give his audience a sense of true musical art, applying enormous control over his tone and coloration. Bugs has played with guitar icons such as B.B. King, Freddie King, Eric Clapton, Ted Nugent, Roy Buchanan and James Burton. To this day, Bugs' guitar hangs in Hard Rock Cafe' in Dallas along side instruments donated by Lee Ritenouer and Chet Atkins. "Bugs Henderson should be declared a national treasure. "Guitar Player Magazine "The best kept secret in Texas, a pastel of original blues and rock." Dave Rubin - "Rockin' the Blues" "This was a journalist's dream for your reporter, - Bugs playing so deep and intensive, anyone has the mouth wide open" BluesLife (Austria) Henderson's guitar and his distinctive voice belong to the best the scene has to offer today." Concerto (Austria) "Henderson certainly has his voice, both in his songwriting and his guitar playing, an amalgam of roots rock and Texas blues." Blues Review Magazine "I'm not aware of anyone else who records with as much diversity. One hell of a guitar player." Electric Blues and Bugs' personal favorite: "Struggling to reach basic musical competence." February 20, 2007 >>>>> Alvin Youngblood Hart brings his deep blues to the Rhythm Room Wednesday, February 20, 2007: Country blues master Alvin Youngblood Hart makes a rare valley appearance this Blues Blast week as a solo country blues artist Wednesday, February 21, 2007, 7pm at the Rhythm Room. Alvin Youngblood Hart’s beautiful and spellbinding voice, combined with his deep understanding of the fine points of country blues guitar, are sure to deliver a champion performance tomorrow night. Opening set by Paris James and Bob Corritore. Doors open at 7pm, advance tickets are $18, or $22 on the day of the show. Advance tickets are available at the Rhythm Room, all Ticketmaster store locations, charge by phone: (480)784-4444, or www.ticketmaster.com. Barbecue will be available for purchase. This will be a patio smoking only event, no indoor smoking will be allowed. >>>>> Rolling Fork Revue to play Blues Blast Kickoff Party Friday, February 23, 2007 at the Rhythm Room: In 2004, Johnny Dyer released Rolling Fork Revisited on Mountaintop Productions. This record was spectacular in that it recreated the sound and feel of Muddy Waters’ 1950’s recordings. Johnny took on the role of vocalist only (even though he is one of the world’s top harmonica players), while Mark Hummel (also an amazing harmonica player) handled the Little Walter harmonica parts, and Rusty Zinn provided his classic Chicago blues guitar playing. Saturday's Blues Blast Kickoff show at the Rhythm Room will capture some of the magic of that record, as is rarely put together in a live concert date. The Rhythm Room All-Stars featuring Big Pete Pearson, Chris James, Bob Corritore, Brian Fahey, Patrick Rynn, and Johnny Rapp will do an opening set before turning it over to the Rolling Fork Revue, featuring Mark Hummel & His Blues Survivors, Johnny Dyer, and Rusty Zinn. This night will showcase some truly great blues harmonica. Cover charge is $12. Doors open at 8pm. Barbecue will be available for purchase. This will be a patio smoking only event, no indoor smoking will be allowed. >>>>> Roy Gaines to play Blues Blast Pre-Party Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the Rhythm Room: Texas blues guitar powerhouse Roy Gaines takes over the Rhythm Room for two sets on Saturday night as a special guest of The Rhythm Room All-Stars. Big Pete Pearson, backed by The Rhythm Room All-Stars (Chris James, Bob Corritore, Brian Fahey, Patrick Rynn, and Johnny Rapp) will provide an opening set, before turning it over to our special guest, fellow Texan Roy Gaines. Roy is one of the most dynamic guitar players and vocalists on the scene today. His records from the fifties are considered classics. He has continued to grow as a bluesman for life. Don’t miss the perfect Blues Blast Pre-party! Cover charge is $10. Doors open at 8pm. Barbecue will be available for purchase. This will be a patio smoking only event, no indoor smoking will be allowed. >>>>> Blues Blast 2007 Information: Make sure and check out the Phoenix Blues Society's website for a complete list of all Blues Blast related items and events, lineup, and venue information. Kudos to Kyle Deibler and the Phoenix Blues Society for putting on our annual big blues party. After Blues Blast 2007 at the Mesa Amphitheatre, an After-party for Blues Blast will take place at the Rhythm Room Sunday, February 25, 2007: Blues Blast ticket holders and event staff get in free, otherwise the cover is only $3. Honeyboy Dupree and the Smokehouse Players will host the After-Party and Celebrity Jam Session. Doors open at 7pm. Barbecue will be available for purchase. This will be a patio smoking only event, no indoor smoking will be allowed. >>>>> Big Pete Pearson gets rave reviews in Living Blues, Blues Source, and Southland Blues Magazines: Click here to read these and other reviews of I'm Here Baby. Special thanks to Jim DeKoster, (Living Blues), Blue Barry (Blues Source), and Jim Santella (Southland Blues) for the kind things they had to say. |

Blistering Blues Guitarist Coco Montoya FRI. 02.23.2007 · 09:30PM · $15 GuitarOne magazine calls guitarist/vocalist Coco Montoya "the hottest southpaw in the blues" and raves about his "master touch and killer tone." The Boston Globe succinctly states that Montoya's music is "hot, blistering soul." In the mid-'70s, Albert Collins took Montoya under his wing and taught him his "icy hot" guitar style. In the early '80s, John Mayall asked him to join the newly reformed Bluesbreakers and he remained a member of the band for 10 years. Scorchin’ Blues from The Kelly Richey Band SAT. 02.24.2007 · 09:30PM · $15 "Stevie Ray Vaughn trapped in a woman's body with Janis Joplin screaming to get out," is how one critic describes blues-rock virtuoso Kelly Richey. As another journalist put it, "Imagine a cross between Bonnie Raitt and Ruth Brown and you've only begun to get the picture." Richey's six-string talent has also earned comparisons to Jimi Hendrix while gaining her a place on stage with blues legends Albert King and Lonnie Mack. |

Blind Pig Artists Arthur Adams |
![]() Blind Pig Records Celebrates 30th Anniversary! The year 2007 marks the 30th anniversary for Blind Pig Records, considered one of the preeminent independent blues and American roots labels in the world. The label, currently headquartered in San Francisco with offices and warehouse in Chicago, got its start in the small basement club of a bar in Ann Arbor, Michigan called the Blind Pig Café. The bar derived its name from a Detroit-area slang term ("blind pig") denoting an after-hours illegal club or speakeasy. In the 70's Ann Arbor was a hotbed of musical as well as political activity - the famous Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festivals were organized by the Rainbow Peoples Party, successor to the White Panther Party - and the Pig seemed to be in the middle of it all. A virtual Who's Who of blues and roots artists played the tiny Pig stage at one time or another - artists such as Otis Rush, Roosevelt Sykes, Bonnie Raitt, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Robert Jr. Lockwood, Asleep At The Wheel, Jimmy Rogers, and Hound Dog Taylor, to name but a few. Inspired by the incredible performances and the desire to share them with a larger audience, bar co-owner Jerry Del Giudice conceived of the idea of recording these artists. In 1977 he enlisted college friend Edward Chmelewski and they established Whole Hog Inc. and began releasing LPs under the Blind Pig Records imprint. Though the label started by recording blues masters such as Horton, Sykes, and Johnny Shines, and went on to release recordings from blues icons such as Muddy Waters, Pinetop Perkins, Luther Allison, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, James Cotton, and Hubert Sumlin, Blind Pig never sought to become strictly a traditional blues label. Over the years, the label has been responsible for establishing a younger generation of artists representing a more contemporary take on the genre - "blues-rock" if you will - Jimmy Thackery, Roy Rogers, Coco Montoya, and Tommy Castro. The label has also released other types of American "source" music such as rockabilly, R&B, zydeco, soul, gospel, roadhouse rock, and Americana. Recently it's showcased the comeback of Fleetwood Mac legend Jeremy Spencer and pushed the roots envelope with newcomers The Rounders. This eclectic approach has garnered the label Grammy nominations in the fields of Blues, Gospel, and Country. Blind Pig kicked off the celebration of its "pearl" anniversary this past fall with the release of the 30th Anniversary Collection, a set of two CDs and a bonus DVD that retails for the price of a single CD. Subtitled "Pearls From Swine," the set's 33 audio tracks and 6 video performances offer three hours of music and celebrate the distinguished label's three-tenths of a century as purveyors of the finest in blues and American roots music. The label continued the celebration by co-sponsoring the just-concluded Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue Tour, which featured Blind Pig artists Tommy Castro, Deanna Bogart, as well as Magic Dick and Ronnie Baker Brooks. Blind Pig's first CD releases for the year include Painkiller from perennial favorite Tommy Castro, Magic Touch, a modern/retro album from new discovery vocalist/harmonica player John Nemeth, and a refreshingly original Wish I Had You from a young alternative roots band called The Rounders. Alles vom Allerfeinsten!
„Back at home in the House of Bluesiana” einziges Österreichkonzert! E x p l o s i v e N a t u r g e w a l t ! Das ist das Geheimnis seines Zaubers !
