Corea wird zudem W.A. Mozarts "Klavierkonzert Nr. 24, KV 491 geben, sowie einige Jazzkompositionen spielen. Es erwarten Sie ganz persönliche Interpretationen, abseits herkömmlicher Repertoirepflege. Jazz Fest Wien 2006 Das PROGRAMM: Museumsquartier / Halle E 29. Fiesta del Arte Benefiting Marin School of the Arts Featuring blues legend, Coco Montoya, food & wine, and an exciting live and silent auction, Saturday, June 3rd 6:30pm NOVATO, CA May 1, 2006 - Marin School of the Arts, the non-profit public school performing arts program at Novato High School, will present their liveliest and most spectacular fundraiser of the year, FIESTA DEL ARTE, featuring legendary blues great, COCO MONTOYA whose mind-bending guitar licks and impassioned vocals will rock the house. Fiesta del Arte takes place SATURDAY, JUNE 3RD, 6:30 to 10:30PM at Saint Vincent’s School Italian Courtyard in San Rafael. Dancing, live music, gourmet food and beverages, art show, and an exciting silent and live auction will be part of the evening’s festivities. Proceeds will benefit the Marin School of the Arts programs that provide training in visual and performing arts for kids grades 9-12, and, a portion of the proceeds will also benefit North Bay arts programs in the public schools. Advance tickets for Fiesta del Arte are $55 per person/$100 per couple; $65 at the door the night of the event. For tickets and information call (415) 892-7915. www.marinschoolofthearts.com ![]() Founded by Director, Mark Peabody in 2004, Marin School of the Arts offers Bay Area students the opportunity to pursue a more focused, in-depth arts program, and enables them to participate and compete in a variety of statewide competitions. In two short years, MSA students have earned more than 100 awards including the latest 2006 awards. On January 28th the MSA Jazz Band took first place in its division at the Folsom Jazz Festival. Two Jazz Combos also took top honors making this the third year that the MSA Jazz Band has received high honors at the Folsom Festival. Over 100 bands and 70 schools competed in the festival. MSA Jazz Band instructor, Garrett Michaelsen was proud of this accomplishment. “It’s exciting to see students from MSA do so well amongst some of the top performing bands, including Berkeley and Folsom High School, both of who have well established and highly competitive music programs. To have a school from Marin County take 1st place in their division this year is a tribute to the talent and dedication of our students, as well as the quality of the program at MSA.” In addition, the MSA Drama & Musical Theater Dept. earned six medals, including a gold medal, at the Lenaea Drama Festival on January 27-29. One of the largest high school theater festivals of its kind in the nation, hosted by Sacramento State University, MSA received more awards than any other school in the festival. Fiesta del Arte featured artist, guitarist/vocalist Coco Montoya’s explosive guitar playing and soul-driven voice have propelled him to the upper reaches of the blues-rock world. Says Billboard Magazine, "In a world of blues guitar pretenders, Coco Montoya is the real McCoy. Be prepared to get scorched.” Born in Santa Monica, California in 1951 and raised by working class parents with a large record collection, Coco grew up playing drums in local rock bands. In the 1970’s legendary bluesman Albert Collins offered Montoya a gig as his drummer, and taught his new protégé secrets of the Collins "icy hot" style of blues guitar. Five years later, John Mayall happened to catch Montoya at a jam session and was blown away, which led to Montoya's touring the world for ten years with the legendary Bluesbreakers. Since stepping out as a bandleader in 1993, Montoya has released four solo albums and has performed non-stop at clubs, concert halls and major festivals all over the world. In 1996, he was nominated for four W.C. Handy Awards and walked away with the award for Best New Blues Artist. In 2000, Coco's Alligator debut, Suspicion, quickly became the best-selling album of his career, holding the number one position on the Living Blues radio chart for three straight months.Marin School of the Arts at Novato High School is the sole public school performing arts program in the North Bay that combines a challenging visual and performing arts curriculum with the benefits of a traditional high school. Currently, 215 students attend MSA and are pursuing career interests in vocal or instrumental music, musical theatre, drama, dance, creative writing, video and filmmaking, and visual arts. MSA accepts students from throughout the North Bay who are interested in pursuing their passion in the performing arts. The Fiesta del Arte fundraiser will directly support MSA students by helping fund essential programs for the following year. For more information on MSA, contact Mark Peabody at 328-4215 or visit the MSA website at marinschoolofthearts.com. |

| Hello again everybody! I just wanted to catch you up on what’s been going on in my life lately. Last week I got back from Memphis, where I was a presenter at the Blues Music Awards. I was honored to be on that stage, and will never forget how it felt to present an award to those winners. (EG and Donovan Allen presenting at the Blues Music Awards Show) For a little while, I was hanging out with Steve Cropper, who helped Otis Redding write “Dock Of The Bay” and many other songs you would definitely recognize. He and I even started writing a song together. I also saw so many of my friends there and got to visit with them. The Blues is like a family and when we all get together, it’s like a reunion. I had such a wonderful time, and I can’t wait till next year. (EG and Steve Cropper) The day after the awards show, I left for Eureka Springs, Arkansas and worked a show at the Auditorium with my dear friends, Saffire - The Uppity Blues Women. Though we didn’t have much time to visit, it was great to catch up with my “Uppity” friends. Talk about “entertainers” - they are some of the best. I was amazed at the layout and beauty of Eureka Springs. It’s a small, quaint art community. If you’ve never been there, you need to put it on your list of things to do. I hope I get to go back and spend more time there real soon. The next morning, (yes, I said “morning”), I performed in Little Rock, Arkansas for the Mother’s Day brunch at the Peabody Hotel. The whole atmosphere was so nice, and I played against a beautiful backdrop of luscious foods, with people of all ages enjoying themselves. One of my blues sisters, Ann Rabson (from The Uppity Blues Women) dropped by to see me. I was so tickled to see her again so soon! ![]() (EG and young fans at the Peabody) ![]() (EG snapped this picture of a Dancin' Duck at the Peabody) Speaking of Ann, she will be joining me, along with my co-writer Tom Horner and another songwriting friend, Dalton Roberts in Chattanooga next month for a songwriter’s night, called “Four On The Floor.” Though I perform in Chattanooga fairly often, this will be a special night where we will perform some of our original songs and discuss how we wrote them, and where our inspiration came from. It should be very interesting and a whole lot of fun. In the next few weeks I’ll be traveling to New York and Pennsylvania to play at the Turning Point, the Billtown Blues Festival, and the Little Barrow Theater. And for all you fans, I’m excited to let you know that I have a new CD that will be coming out in a week or so. It’s a live solo recording that was done at Jeremiah’s in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It’s called “EG - Live and Naked.” As most of you know, when I play solo with just my guitar, I call it being “naked.” And when I have my band with me, I call it “puttin’ on my clothes.” I can’t wait for you to hear the live CD! I hope you like it. I’m proud to announce, too, that I’ve signed with a new booking agency, the Highway 49 Agency. This agency has years of experience in a variety of different areas, and I’m excited about the possibilities. Keep an eye on my schedule, ‘cause I hope to be coming out your way soon! Thanks again for all of your support and interest in my career. Remember - it’s YOU, the fans who come out to my shows, who make it possible for me to continue to live out my dream with my music. Don’t forget you can write to me any time at egkight@nlamerica.com. It’s always good to hear from you. And don’t forget to tell all your ipod using friends that my music can now be found on itunes. www.itunes.com. Keep a song in your heart, EG Upcoming Dates JUNE 2 ~ Bethlehem, PA - Godfrey Daniels (solo) ~ with Ann Rabson JUNE 3 ~ Franklin, PA - Little Barrow Theatre (solo) JUNE 10 ~ Piermont, NY - The Turning Point JUNE 11 ~ Williamsport, PA - Billtown Blues Festival JUNE 24 ~ Chattanooga, TN - The Tropicana Room AUGUST 12 ~ Duluth, MN - Bayfront Blues Festival SEPTEMBER 2 & 3 ~ Asheville, NC - The Biltmore Estate Winery (solo) SEPTEMBER 29 ~ Valdosta, GA - Private Event OCTOBER 7 & 8 ~ Asheville, NC - The Biltmore Estate Winery (solo) OCTOBER 13 ~ Oil City, PA - Transit Museum (solo) OCTOBER 21 to 28 ~ Torino, Italy |
